IMASDE has two Animal Biosafety Level 2 facilities specifically designed for developing infection trials with different microbes listed as Level 2 (moderate hazard).
Two types of experimental design can be applied: floor pens (wood shavings as bedding) or 3-bird cages, trials with 2 to 6 treatments and 12-16 broilers per treatment.
The infection models implemented are Campylobacter jejuni, Salmonella spp. and Clostridium Perfringens (Necrotic Enteritis).
IMASDE manages its own laboratory where the microbial analyses are done.
